The Global Talent visa is for leaders and potential leaders in academia or research, arts and culture, and digital technology. Unlike most UK work routes, it does not require a job offer or employer sponsorship.
Most applicants follow a two-stage process: first an endorsement application assessed by an approved endorsing body for their field, then the visa application itself. Some holders of eligible prizes or awards can skip the endorsement stage.
Each endorsing body publishes its own criteria and evidence requirements — for example recommendation letters, publications, exhibitions, products or recognition by peers. Building a coherent portfolio of evidence is the core of a strong application.
Holders can generally work as employees, be self-employed or change jobs without needing permission, and eligible partners and children can apply as dependants. The route can lead to settlement after a qualifying period, which may differ depending on the endorsement category.
Requirements, fees and qualifying periods are set by the Immigration Rules and change from time to time. This article is general information; for advice on your evidence and timing, speak to a regulated immigration adviser.
