Definition
An immigration status that lets a non-national live in a country indefinitely, usually after a qualifying period of lawful temporary residence.
Permanent residents can generally live and work without the time limits of a temporary permit, but they do not hold the nationality or a passport of that country. Conditions to keep the status, such as maximum absences, vary by country.
